"Excellent staff; Emergency Department and Acute Stroke Unit"

About: University Hospital Hairmyres / Acute Stroke Unit (Ward 6) University Hospital Hairmyres / Emergency Department

(as a relative),

My dad took unwell at work, due to the quick timing of his work colleagues made his way to the Emergency Department (ED) in Hairmyres

The ED staff were amazing and had him CT scanned and  bloods obtained and reviewed very promptly despite busy pressures.

He then was found after MRI to have had a stroke and was promptly taken to ward 6 the Acute Stroke Unit.

The admitting nurse Michelle was fantastic and Dr Ibraheem was so kind he actually stayed past his shift to keep us informed of what was happening with his care. They then proceeded to do all the further investigations promptly over the weekend and he is now home waiting further review from Vascular.

My Dad is usually from Ayr and would be seen at a different hospital and despite the distance I knew he was in very capable hands and wonder if he would have had the same care if he had not attended a hospital with a stroke department which Ayr does not have.  In times when the NHS is heavily criticised for waits and insufficient care, I think it so important to praise them when they should be!

Despite the stress the staff were all witty and kept my dad entertained.

Thank you Dr Ibraheem, Michelle the staff nurse and all the staff at ED and ward 6!
