I went into Pilgrim for a total hip replacement. I was a bit nervous, but was in so much pain I couldn’t wait to get this over with.
I had seen the consultants previously and they were very caring and put me at ease. I went into the Day Case Ward to wait for my theatre time where everyone was kind and helpful.
I went down to theatre, where the anaesthetist told me I was having an epidural, which I wasn’t expecting. The whole thing was perfect and I felt as though I was floating. I would advise anyone to have an epidural if it was offered.
From there I went to Recovery, where everyone was so lovely. I had to wait for a bed to become available on 9th floor for a couple of hours and the girls in there were so helpful, especially a nurse called Abbie who really went out of her way to make me comfortable.
I was taken to 9th floor Orthopaedic Trauma ward after about 3 hours and was given a room with a bathroom.
I couldn’t have been looked after any better there, from the cleaners, the ladies who brought my food and all the nurses on there. I was given pain relief regularly I also saw two occupational therapists and two physios. Everyone was lovely. I couldn’t fault my care in this hospital and would recommend it to anyone.
I will be going back for more physio soon. I have continued to improve every day
