"Premature birth - an amazing team"

About: Maternity care / Ward 48 (labour ward) Maternity care / Ward 49 (neonatal intensive care unit NNICU)

(as a service user),

To the amazing midwifes in the Labour ward, Altnagelvin Hospital - I'll never have the words for how grateful I am.

I went into spontaneous labour at 29+3. I arrived at the hospital shortly before 1.30pm (completely oblivious to what was about to happen) and delivered my baby boy at 23.28. He is now a thriving big 1 year old after spending 9 weeks in the neighbouring NNICU.

A special mention to Joanne and Amy who overseen most of my care. Also to Sr Leona who kept me calm and Nicole. There was also a student midwife (1st year) Aoibheann who was amazing and put Westlife on for me🤩 There were more faces coming in and out but its all a bit of a blur!!

There wasn't any stage during my labour I felt panic or concern the girls were so good at keeping a calm environment and ensuring I wasn't completely overwhelmed. They also did a terrific job at keeping my partner calm as he was completely aware of everything going on.

Thank you all again girls- an amazing team❤️
