I attended the A and E department recently as I presented with a tracking cellulitis from an infected finger. I was met by a friendly receptionist and then triaged and seen by a doctor who prioritised the fact I was in a lot of pain. I was informed fully of the process and looked after by a staff nurse Jenny who was absolutely lovely and kind.
I was later seen by the orthopaedic registrar Mr Alloush who was caring and very helpful about the treatment plan. I was sent home with adequate analgesia and antibiotic therapy. Unfortunately although the cellulitis improved quickly I had to return as the primary infected area had deteriorated and I was concerned about the amount of pain I was experiencing.
I was again greeted by a friendly face at reception and later triaged. The doctor who initially assessed me was Bella and was nothing short of wonderful. Nothing was too much trouble and prioritised my pain by ensuring I had good analgesia on board during my wait. I was then seen by Mr Alloush who again was caring and professional in his approach. A small procedure was carried out under local anaesthetic and a follow up arranged.
Given the pressures the nhs are under and the hectic and busy nature of the a and e department I was so thankful for the staff and the care they gave me. I work in the nhs myself and it is certainly more daunting being on the other side. I feel so very fortunate and grateful to the staff that dealt with me they are an absolute credit to the organisation
