I have chronic health issues and cannot fault the standard of care I usually receive within the QEUH. The staff are fantastic and nothing is too much trouble.
However, during my recent stay on ARU and then on ward 6B, I suddenly deteriorated one night. It took over 3 hours and me buzzing 8 times (answered by several HCSWs) for the nurse to eventually see me. Even at this point, my obs weren’t repeated. They just said they would call the doctor. Half an hour later the doctor came and finally my obs were repeated and a diagnosis of sepsis was made and treatment initiated.
The lack of urgency was quite scary and I was quite surprised that my obs were not repeated when I initially said that I felt unwell and syncopal. I wonder if some extra training is required.
That one episode aside, I genuinely cannot fault the care I received and would not hesitate for anyone I care about to be looked after here.
"Excellent care but some concerns"
