"First class care and attention"

About: University Hospital Wishaw / Day Surgery

(as a relative),

My Nana has Dupuytren's disease. Many of her fingers have been affected. In this case it was her pinky finger. She went into the Day Surgery as she was not fit to go under a general anaesthetic. When seen by the surgeon on the day of her procedure, he said that there's not much they can do with just using a local anaesthetic.

My Nana was disappointed with this news, but whilst still in Day Surgery, one of the nurses spoke to the surgeon to see what other options there could be. The nurse came back and said that there is something that the surgeon could do, but it would only open up the finger by 50% which would not be as successful as a full surgery under general anaesthetic. My Nana was just pleased at the idea that at least something could be done. The procedure she underwent was minimally invasive, and the recovery was quick and smooth. The procedure has made such a difference, as her pinky was also dragging down her ring finger. She has much better use of her hand now. My Nana says it is all thanks to Elspeth, as without her, my Nana would have left Day Surgery having had nothing done.

She has written a note which says "Thank you all so very much for your excellent care and attention. It was 1st class! A special thanks to nurse Elspeth for the great advice."

And thank you from me, her grandson, and the rest of the family. This procedure has allowed my Nana who is in her eighties to keep up her independence .

Dear Jack Sparrow,

Thankyou for taking the time to provide feedback. I am sorry that your Nana required our services, however I am pleased that the care received was as your Nana said "1st Class". I am delighted to hear the impact this has also had on your grans independence and general wellbeing. It is important that we keep patients at the heart of what we do and I will ensure your feedback is provided to Elspeth and the rest of the day surgery team.

Many thanks

David
