"Visiting the Bone Density Unit having broken my wrist several months ago."

About: South West Acute Hospital / Radiology

(as the patient),

I fell in the garden while weeding and broke my right wrist while trying to break my fall. My right knee needs a replacement (due shortly), the knee gave way on me. Appointment time to visit the Bone Density Unit was 11:30am and was called in within a couple of minutes of that time. Was made to feel comfortable straight away and the Bone Density scan was carried out. Afterwords, was taken by the staff to discuss the scan results with a nurse from the Altnagelvin Hospital. An in-depth explanation was given to help me understand the results of the scan and the recommendations made to help strengthen my bones going forward. Blood tests were taken to round out my visit to the hospital ... the results of these will be made known in due course.

Dear Cuddly75,

My name is Ann Marie Conlon and I am the Falls Integrated Pathway Co-ordinator within the Western Health and Social Care Trust.

Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback on the service received through Care Opinion. We are always grateful to those who share their experiences of the services they have received.

It was reassuring to learn that you received a timely response at the time of your appointment with the Bone Density Unit.

As an organisation we are committed to consistently show kindness, compassion, professionalism and respect to the patients we care for.

I hope that you are making a good recovery at this time and that you are receiving follow up care in relation to your wrist fracture and knee problems at this time. I see that you identified problems with your knee as a contributing factor in this fall incident.

If you would like further information on managing falls risk or you wish to discuss falls prevention please contact the falls integrated pathway office on 02871610763.

Best wishes,

Ann Marie Conlon

Falls Integrated Pathway Co-ordinator
