"There is a lovely member of the domestic staff who greets us"

About: Glasgow Royal Infirmary / Endoscopy

(as a relative),

We have been attending the Glasgow Royal Infirmary over the last year for my dad to receive his Halo treatment for his throat cancer at the Endoscopy unit on Lower Ground level. We go in through the ambulance bay entrance at Castle St which is basement level,  and every time we go, there is a lovely member of the domestic staff who greets us and asks us do we know where we are going today and helping us if we need it.  I notice this person does this with everyone that enters here and is really doing the job of a receptionist too.

I think it would be nice for this member of staff to be recognised for doing this, as so many staff don`t take the time to engage in simple conversation with patients and relatives and this really does make a huge difference to easing the tension of a stressful day for most. I am sorry that I don`t know the staff member`s name to mention them here but can describe them as having a lovely smile and nature.  Thank you very much  for all you do!

Dear DDebby

Thank you so much for taking the time to leave us your feedback on Care Opinion.

It was really nice to hear of the high regard you hold for one of our domestic staff members currently working within the basement area of the Glasgow Royal Infirmary.

Absolutely! A genuine smile and a simple acknowledgment can indeed work wonders. It creates an atmosphere of warmth and compassion, making patients and visitors feel valued and cared for. It’s remarkable how such small gestures can have an outsized impact on someone’s day just as you have said.

I'm glad this particular member of staff has made you and your dad's experience of attending hospital a more enjoyable one and I'll be happy to make sure this staff member is recognised and acknowledged for his contribution to the team.

Kind regards

Kevin

Thank you, I notice you’ve said ‘he’ but just to mention it is a lady with short hair and glasses maybe 60? Just so it’s the right person being recognised.

Thanks again.
