"Recommendations"

About: Craigavon Area Hospital / Bluestone Unit (In-patient wards for mental health)

(as a service user),

After thoughtful examination and reflection of experiences concerning health, it is important that I provide strong recommendations to improve on areas related to doctor-patient engagement and treatment. I have proposed the following based on my experiences;

•Robust communication between the doctor and patient (and if necessary relatives), hence a two way respectful and engaging approach which actively considers and represents both parties to prevent biased approaches, assumptions and opinions (with a key focus on openness, inclusiveness and involvement).

•Access to alternative treatments and helpful resources especially when an individual expresses concerns or encounters problems without having inadequate restrictions.

•Opportunities to reflect and ask appropriate questions rather than relying on observation alone to prevent assumptions being made and misjudgements for both parties to improve accuracy, clarity, and confidence.

Hi

As means of an update, we have shared your feedback with our wards and teams here in Bluestone regarding the importance of clear communication with patients and their families and demonstrating mutual respect at all times. Within Bluestone, we are implementing the 'Safe Wards' model which promotes the use of alternative therapies and resources including our Tranquility Tools, relaxation spaces as well as a 7 day timetable of both indoor and outdoor structured, recovery focused activities.

I would like to thank you again for sharing your feedback with us, hearing from our patients regarding their experience is very important to us

thanks

Jennie
