"Trying to make a complaint at NHS Highland"

About: NHS Highland (Health)

(as a service user),

I feel like I don't even exist to NHS Highland because I am disabled. They haven't ever seemed to understand the needs of disabled people (in my experience) and I have been unable to find policies relating to people with disabilities, assistance dogs, powered wheelchair users, mobility scooters, etc., so I wonder how can they possibly train their staff to know how to treat people with a wide range of disabilities appropriately and in a manner which treats them equally with others and inclusively?

I have difficulty typing so wanted to speak with someone at the NHS Highland Feedback Team but it would appear that they have all gone digital and I feel they are ignoring my needs as someone who for one reason or another, cannot type and submit things digitally. They should have a duty of care to all of us.

I telephoned and got a machine, not a person. The message asked me to leave my name and number and that was over a week ago. Nobody has got back to me so I have had to resort to help from another person in order for this to be posted publicly. Shame on you NHS Highland! If you don't listen to, and address complaints then you you are giving the impression that you have no wish to improve matters.

Please take issues seriously and correct them.

Dear LS1

Thank you for contacting us to highlight your concerns regarding NHS Highland Feedback Team.

I am sorry to read that you feel you don't exist because of your disabilities. This is certainly not the case. All patients, and service users are important, and your healthcare provision is paramount.

I am sorry to hear that the message you left on our answering service was not returned. Unfortunately, due to the high call demand, emails, and other forms of communication we are not always able to accept live calls however someone should have called you back.

We would encourage you to leave us a message for any further matters and we will endeavour to call you back at our earliest opportunity. If you are unable to accept the call we will call back again.

You can also email us directly at nhshighland.feedback@nhs.scot

Please let us know if we can offer you any further assistance, or support.

With kind regards

Sylvia
