"Support during PET scan - marvellous staff member"

About: Beatson West of Scotland Cancer Centre / radiology

(as a service user),

I am extremely claustrophobic and any type of scan is traumatic for me, however I am worse when I have to undergo a PET scan which involves my head and  face being in the scanner.

I have sought various support areas including hypnosis and medication however far and away I have to say that the support of radiographer Kerry  was not only empathetic and supportive, she truly got me through the scan with her explanations of each step, checked with me to ensure I was coping and is such a genuinely skilled and professional attribute to the NHS.

I was aware of Kerry dealing with other patients (the environment is quite close) and it is evident that she is a true asset to your organisation.

Thank you Kerry for your support and I trust you are getting the recognition you deserve from the management of your unit.

Dear Eddie53!

Thank you for taking the time to tell us about the support you have received from Kerry during your PET scan. We understand that some patients have claustrophobia and that having a PET can be a traumatic experience. I am so pleased to hear that Kerry took the time to reassure you and make sure you understood what was going on at each stage and that you were coping during the scan. This is a great example of our staff delivering person centred care.

It will be my pleasure to share this feedback with Kerry and her managers. I am sure Kerry will be delighted with your feedback.

Take care

Nicole
