My elderly Mum had 2 recent inpatient admissions to Hairmyres Hospital and on both occasions came home weak and exhausted. She then slowly built up her fitness. In February 2024, a routine blood test showed extremely low potassium. She refused to go to hospital for iv treatment and monitoring and insisted she would stay at home, as she felt well.
The HAH service arranged potassium tablets, blood tests, scans and diagnosed Conn’s Syndrome which can be managed with a change in BP tablets. She continued her normal activities, stayed active and last week turned 92, walked around the heritage park lake, had lunch and then mowed the lawn. A Hospital at Home success. Many thanks.
