I recently spent two periods in Bluestone due to my mental health deteriorating over this past year. As someone who has never spent time in hospital before, I found the thoughts of being admitted very scary.
The staff immediately made me feel at ease and helped me to settle in. They listened to my concerns and worries and helped me think about coping mechanisms when times were tough, even small things such as herbal teas and breathing exercises. I participated in lots of activities during my time on the wards, including crafts, relaxation, bingo, walking - all which kept my mind active and gave me time to focus on my own needs.
I was able to attend similar classes in the community when I came home, and they gave me a focus and structure to my week. I ate better than I ever did when in Bluestone, and realised that good food and rest was also part of my road to recovery. I would like to thank all the staff in Bluestone, both nursing staff and the nursing assistants, the OT staff, social workers and the catering and domestic team - all who made me feel so cared for during my time there. Thank you for helping me get back on my feet.
