I recently underwent TURBT. I was anxious as I arrived for treatment in the morning. In part, this was probably because I had not seen any medical staff face to face since my MRI. I did see Dr. Wylie, consultant anaesthetist, on the Thursday before. I want to thank Dr Wylie for being so understanding of my religious views that affect my decision not to accept blood or the main components of blood. I found this was the case throughout my entire stay in hospital.
Although I had to wait for some time in the waiting room I was treated with courtesy by the staff.
I continued to feel anxious until I was taken to the operating suite.
Immediately after my operation I was treated kindly and am especially grateful to Mr Hasan for quickly advising me that my procedure was successful.
My post operative experience was really good. I am so grateful to all the staff in ward 53. To Roseanne and her staff during the day and to the lovely night staff (sorry, I can't remember names)
I didn't sleep a wink during the night and absolutely hated having the catheter in. It was so uncomfortable, although I know that it was very necessary. It was a long night. I worried about small things. Would the catheter get too full? What would happen in the morning?
Things moved on fairly quickly the next day. I enjoyed the banter in the ward. The friendly atmosphere really helped.
I wasn't sure if I would get to go home later, but it became clear that I would. It was a huge relief to get the catheter out and start to feel normal again.
Getting home was wonderful and my own bed bliss.
So, thank you to Mr Hasan and the wonderful staff in the admission unit, theatre, and ward 53 of WGH.
