I gave birth to my little girl on a Wednesday evening in mid June in the Princess Royal Maternity Hospital.
We were warmly greeted in the labour ward by qualified midwife Sophie and final year student Lizzie who instantly made us feel comfortable and relaxed. My waters had went but contractions hadn’t started yet so they made me aware of my options and gave me time to think about what I wanted to do.
Their shift finished and qualified midwife Beth and final year student Lauren joined us for the duration of their shift, both were very informative about birth in general and supportive during my contractions.
Unfortunately their shift came to an end and new midwives were due to start which worried me thinking I would need to form a relationship with new midwives but Sophie and Lizzie joined us again as soon as their shift began, which was a relief for both myself and my husband.
Just 1 hour after their shift began they delivered our baby girl and facilitated all the requests we had asked for after the birth making it a very calm environment for us to enjoy those first few hours.
All the midwives we came into contact with during that day were all so kind and helpful but we are so grateful to Sophie, Beth, Lizzie and Lauren for all they done for us.
We wish Lizzie and Lauren all the best in their future careers as midwives, they are going to be an amazing support for future mum’s due to the training provided by Sophie and Beth. Thanks girls!
