"Embarrassed about issues being talked about so openly"

About: Craigavon Area Hospital / 4 North Surgical

(as a relative),

I feel disappointed in the care my mum received in 4N in CAH in visiting hours, which  I feel is protected time for family and friends. However this was not the case as a nurse came in and started talking about her personal condition in front of a friend that had came to visit. This led to them feeling uncomfortable and left after a short stay. I feel this is very disappointing and not very dignified practice. Surely she could have came back in 5-10 mins or waited until visiting hours were over which would have been 15 mins? I feel this doesn’t show compassion or promote a high standard of care, leaving my mum feeling embarrassed about her issues being talked so openly.

As Ward sister Manager of 4north I apologise most sincerely for this incident that has occurred whilst in 4 North. This is not a practice or standard that I embed into the team in 4 North.

I apologise to all of you as this is not what I strive or endeavor for any patients or family journey whilst in 4 North.

I will ensure that all staff are made aware of this incident and learning will come from it.

Best Wishes

Emma Mc Cann
