"extremely helpful, caring and professional"

About: Rapid Response Teams / Rapid response team Derry/ Londonderry

(as a service user),

Due to cancer diagnosis and requiring Picc Line for treatment I was referred to Rapid Response at Gransha. I found them to be extremely helpful, caring and professional.  I felt I was in a safe environment at all times for infection control, this is very important.

On one occasion after a bank holiday I attended my GP surgery as I required bloods done at short notice and cancer centre advised I go there. Receptionist told me it would be 9 days before they could see me, even though I explained I was a cancer patient. I felt very dismissed and it was quite distressing. I rang Rapid Response and they took me straight away.

I feel safer there as in a Drs surgery sitting in a packed waiting room and people no longer wearing masks, makes me feel more vulnerable and open to infection.

Hello Papaqx98,

My name is Tina McCauley and I am clinical coordinator with the rapid response team in Derry.

Thank you so much for posting your very open and honest feedback of services on the Care Opinion platform.

I haven't had the opportunity as yet, to share your feedback with the team, but I certainly will.I know they will be delighted that you found them all caring, professional and extremely helpful.I am so glad that you felt safe in our 'hub' environment. As a team we strive for excellence in practice at all times, and it is reassuring to have your acknowledgement of our care as validation of this.

I am so sorry that you felt dismissed and distressed when trying to arrange urgent bloods as part of your cancer treatment journey. As a team we are aware and sensitive to the many complexities that our patients with a cancer diagnosis may have to endure.

We do understand the pressures that individual areas are experiencing at this time and as such,we are working with our GP and Cancer Centre colleagues to try to help alleviate some of these pressures for patients.

I am really glad that you had the confidence in our team and service to contact us and we will certainly always support you in your ongoing treatment journey.

Warmest Regards

Tina
