"My mum's story"

Mum was admitted into hospital and had an emergency operation for a mass on her bowel. She was taken to ICU as she became very unwell. Following this she developed sepsis and had to had a second operation to repair a hole in the wound. It was t clear if she would survive this. She was intubated following the operation for a week and we didn’t know if she would survive being taken off the ventilator. She had been in hospital for about 3 weeks now and came through the removal of her breathing tube but developed another infection. They found 2 abscesses which needed to be drained, hopefully this will then let her start her recovery.

Throughout this time we tried hard to hold onto the fact that previous to this mum had been active and healthy. There were times we felt things were looking bad but she kept holding on and so did we. All the staff at the hospital have been brilliant, the level of care and support mum has received whilst in ICU is more than we could have hoped for. We have been scared to get too excited about her recovery but with the reassurance from everyone that mum is going in the right direction we are starting to believe we could get her home again.
