"There is nothing really to be scared about"

About: Bassetlaw Hospital NHS Nottingham and Nottinghamshire Integrated Care Board

(as the patient),

About 2 weeks ago I started to see a few hard spots on my penis, I didn’t think anything of it and thought it would go away. After about 2 weeks it started to progress and grow and spread down my penis and it started to worry me.

I am a teenager and I was worried that I might have an STI but I thought it was impossible. After it spread and there was loads of mini dots starting to show I went on 111 online and the advice was to get help.

I scheduled a call back with a nurse and she booked me in to see me that night where I went by myself and they didn’t tell my parents. When I was in there, I waited for no longer than 10 minutes and my appointment was exactly on time. I saw the doctor and he spoke to me in a nice way and said he is going to take a look after he got someone to supervise, when a chaperone came he took a look and ruled out that I had balanitis and explained what that was, which isn’t an STI, it is a skin infection that happens to a lot of men (3-11%) which is quite common.

My advice for any men however old you are, if you see anything unusual on your penis or anywhere around, see someone about it as soon as you can, if I didn’t get that sorted and I just kept it there waiting, I could of got something serious. Which nobody wants.

If you have read this message this far, thank you for your time, I hope you took something out of this message as there is nothing really to be scared about.
