I want to thank the Riverside Practice for taking care of my brother and ultimately helping him receive treatment and a safe place to live. My brother lives with paranoid schizophrenia and refused most help offered for years. He is difficult to work with and can be rude on a bad day.He lived without heating hot water or cooking facilities for many years in Vauxhall. However he always attended the Hurley and Riverside practice to see the practice nurse for his monthly depo injection. My brother's mental health deteriorated after our mother died and he became very vulnerable. The practice supported me in reporting him as a vulnerable adult and his GP and nurse constantly followed up to see that he was referred to the Mental Health team, and the social prescriber and sending people to visit when he didn't arrive for his appointments. He eventually admitted himself to hospital and was assess properly for the first time in decades. He now lives in supported housing and is more stable than he has been for a decade. I want to thank his GP and Practice nurse for being persistent in their help and support and for keeping him on radar of other services. His GP kept in touch with me and always followed up. I was always fearful of a phone call telling me that he had died of hypothermia. The practice has been instrumental in keeping him alive and him moving to a better place for which I will always be grateful. Not enough people thank staff who work at the sharp end of health care so I felt it important to do so.Thank you.
