My mum had urosepsis in July 2024. She has dementia and had been in hospital several times over the last few months. This time the hospital at home team in NHS Lanarkshire were able to look after her in her own home.
They gave her fluids and IV antibiotics and after 4 days she was back up on her feet and well again. Previously when she had been in hospital she came home so confused and disorientated and it could take weeks for her to feel safe at home again.
The hospital at home team enabled mum to avoid this, and she bounced back so quickly. The ANP who visited Mum was brilliant. He was thorough and so caring and communicated with family so much better than the hospital teams ever have.
I can’t praise the hospital at home team enough. They should be resourced further so that many other families can benefit from this service, especially when there is so much pressure on in patient services.
