"It would be good if there was a clinic or nurse to contact"

About: South West Acute Hospital / Outpatient clinics

(as a service user),

I attend a Pessary Well Women clinic every 2-3 months, and sometimes when I am home for a few days after I experience a bit of bleeding and there is no where to get help other than A&E. You can be sat in A&E for 8-9 hours. The pessary clinic is only open a few days a week, and there is no number to contact them on directly, so you have to go through the main hospital. It would be good if there was a clinic or nurse to contact when this bleeding happens, it would be quicker and not clog up A&E.

Hi Taurusmb67, Thank you for highlighting your frustration that there is no where to get help, following pessary insertion, if needed, other than presenting to AED.

The current service that we provide is developed around the demands/needs of service users and it is regrettable at this time we are unable to provide further access to drop in/ emergency clinics slots within the outpatients department against competing demands.

I wish to reassure you advice regarding complications post pessary insertion can be sought from clinic staff at time of appointment or alternatively post procedure from your GP or out of hours GP whom may wish to seek further support/advice/guidance from the gynaecology team if they believe this bleeding is attributed to pessary insertion to prevent you waiting for long periods in the A+E department.
