I attended my GP last Monday in excruciating pain and provided them with urine sample to enable them to rule a UTI.
I was examined by the GP and following an examination and testing my urine he advised that I had electrolytes and other things in my urine. I asked for anti-biotics and was refused, being advised to attend A&E.
I attended A&E, however the sheer volume of people waiting to to be seen resulted in me returning home with no answers.
The next day, I attended A&E at 7am, I was triaged, had bloods taken and seen in a short time by a medic. The medic asked why I was there and I proceeded to tell him about what had taken place the day before.
I was in excruciating pain and when I requested pain relief this was afforded in a timely manner while I awaited the results of my blood test.
I was PX antibiotics for a kidney infection and returned home. The care and treatment at A&E was very good, however disappointing that something that could have been treated in primary care resulted in a hospital visit.
It is my view that GPs are sending lots of referrals to A&E and this is bottlenecking the system and means that people who require urgent treatment are having to wait.
Thankyou BDGH A&E department
