I recently received a hip replacement at University Hospital Hairmyres and had excellent care from start to finish.
Prior to attending hospital, I was well prepared for my admission with help from the joint school and pre-operative assessment. In the day surgery unit, Dr Julia and Matthew (anaesthetics) spoke me through my anaesthesia options and reassured me about receiving a spinal, putting me at ease leading up to surgery.
Once in the operating theatre, Mr Howie, Rachel (orthopaedics), John and the rest of the team were incredibly professional and made me so comfortable, relieving any anxiety I had beforehand.
When in recovery, my staff nurse, Olivia, was kind enough to help me phone my kids and let them know I was okay - something we all really appreciated. I was moved to Ward 7, where the care I received from Marie, Jackie, Debbie, Wendy, Elaine, David, Liz, Kirsty and many others over three days was first-class. The support offered by all domestic staff and ladies who provided my meals, tea and fresh water was also second-to-none.
Kathleen and Laura (physiotherapists) and Sharon (occupational therapy department) were all lovely and helped get me on my feet at my own pace, and once home I received great support from Susan (Enhanced Recovery Nursing Service) through her post-op call.
I couldn’t be more grateful for the work done by every person involved in my surgery and recovery - each and every one of them make me so proud of the NHS. Thank you all so much!
