My pregnancy experiences have all been so positive, particularly with my 3rd child. From my community midwife, Amy (based at Allermuir Health Centre, Edinburgh), to the staff at the Edinburgh Birthing Centre, everyone was conscientious and caring and provided the exact emotional and physical support I needed at the time I met them all.
The level of communication between departments and the speed at which I was given extra scans/day assessment appointments was also exceptional and I would like to note how lovely the reception ladies (particularly the lady with the dark hair) were.
Amy was sweet, friendly and supportive and never made me feel rushed in my appointments. Thorough and knowledgeable, she also was very gentle during the more intimate aspects of pregnancy. In the 10 days after, circumstances meant that you didn't do most of our checks but I was so glad you got to see us the first and last of those home visits.
When the time came to give birth, my experience of the Birthing Centre was so lovely. I apologise for not remembering everyone's names but midwives Leigh and Jenny were really friendly during the early stages. The lovely lady on the desk was so kind and sweet and chatty when we went out for a walk, then again when we went home. She gave my older two wee girls paper and pens to draw with and gave us a number of gorgeous handknitted baby things to take away. The paediatrician and obstetrician (both women but I'm sorry I didn't catch their names to personally thank them here) who examined my baby and I were all kind, efficient, and instilled so much confidence in what they were doing. The charge midwife Jenny was really lovely. A particular thank you to the lovely first year student midwife who held my hand and showed real care and compassion when I was in the throes of labour and the aftermath - you were integral in helping me through and are a true asset to your profession already.
The biggest thank you of all goes to Eilidh. You were an absolute angel and I couldn't have asked for a better person to look after me and my baby during labour. Your calm voice and general demeanour went a long way to helping me keep calm and focused. You were there in the background the whole time and came to me when I needed you, taking my cues to do so. You were gentle, supportive, compassionate and made me feel like everything was going to be ok (which it was!), and nothing was an issue, even though it caused you extra work (my placenta fell out as I was walking to the bed and went everywhere, I am so sorry for that). After my baby was born you very kindly took him for as long as he would allow to give me time to rest. I also really appreciated the fact that you came back to say goodbye and check on us after your shift had finished. I know how busy and tired you must have been so this really meant a lot.
All in all, every member of staff throughout my experience are such assets to the NHS and I want to thank them all.
"All staff throughout my experience are such assets"
