Attended the Queen Elizabeth Glasgow hospital in Govan this week after my GP advised that I was severely unwell with my oxygen levels dropping,.
I attended late evening. A senior nurse stated I hadn’t been booked in till an hour later, which wasn't true, as I had handed a letter over to the receptionist desk that my GP had given me. The nurse shouted at said receptionist about another patient. After this I was taken to the nurses station and given a cuppa tea.
I then proceeded to sit there for another hour before I got bloods taken. I was on my own and as a single parent my kids had to be watched by a family friend. My oldest was extremely unsettled as she is on the spectrum. I explained all this to the nurse who didn’t seem to care and proceeded to tell me people had been waiting for days.
The whole experience was very traumatic and the nurse, who is supposed to be caring and understanding, showed no empathy and was in no way caring towards me or other staff, or other patients.
I was refused a complaints form from the nurse and told to leave as I had discharged myself. At this point I was extremely upset, tired and very unwell and couldn’t go thru this any longer at 3am. It was only when I went through to A&E that they gave me the complaints form. I will be following this up with an official complaint and would not recommend to go to this hospital when this nurse is on duty.
Also as I was leaving two porters, a nurse, and another patient came to make sure I was ok. I understand everyone has a bad day, but I there was no need for the way myself and others were treated.
"Lack of empathy in the emergency department"
