I was recently discharged from the Rehabilitation unit after a 6 week stay, I was diagnosed with Guillian-Barré Syndrome and had waited a few weeks for a bed in NRU due to there only been 18 beds available.
I honestly cannot emphasise the professional and exceptional care I received from all the staff in the unit.
A massive thank you to my brilliant OT Liz who worked tirelessly with me on a daily basis, (although the OT's were very short staffed) her outstanding professionalism, as well as her friendly nature made my early dark days much more bearable, as well as her honest happiness when I'd progressed in my recovery.
Another massive thank you to my brilliant PT Niamh she also worked tirelessly with me every day for 2 (1 hour) gym sessions. We laughed and cried together, she was such a professional and remarkable help to my recovery. All the PT's in the gym were so encouraging and genuinely pleased with my progress.
Another massive thank you to Maureen who worked in the dining room. She asked about my recovery on a daily basis, she's such a lovely person and I had some great chats with her and other patients during meal service, making each and every one of us feel special.
Another massive thank you to the nursing and care staff in the ward who looked after me so well, making my friends and family feel very welcome. They were genuinely interested in how my day was going and how physio sessions had went, I had good laughs as well as some tears with some of them, thank you especially to Louise, Janet, Abby, Elaine, Alec, David, Jordan and Hazel (sorry if I've missed any of my favourites, but you all know who you are).
I honestly will be forever grateful to each and every one of the staff including Donna for managing such a brilliant unit.
I won't lie, the physio was brutal but I only had mental, positive attitude during my stay, and all the lovely staff mentioned above, definitely got me walking again. They are all a credit to the NRU as well as the NHS. Thank you xx
