Having a daughter born at 27 weeks is an emotional roller-coaster to say the least. The staff at Wishaw are amazing, we put all of our trust in them and they saved our daughter's life sometimes more than once a day! Their care went beyond just looking after our daughter but also to us. The doctors really wanted you to be part of the decision making process. The nurses became our extended family and the skills and knowledge they have is phenomenal.
They also had an occupational therapist who was incredible. We got moved to a different hospital and now realise even more how lucky Wishaw are to have an OT (as our new hospital doesn't). Gil gave us lots of guidance and taught us techniques to support developmental care, we couldn't have done this without Gil. She also heavily promotes swaddle baths which to this day was the happiest we have seen our daughter. Gil has given us the confidence and knowledge to more fully support our daughters development, we wouldn't have had the knowledge and skills to do this without her.
We belive that a dedicated OT is fundamental to a more positive neonatal jounrey. All the practice at that hospital is led and guided through research to support developmental care. Nothing we can say will ever be enough to convey our thanks to the whole team at Wishaw NNC
