"Met with empathy, friendliness and professionalism"

(as the patient),

Recently I had the last of my radiotherapy treatments for prostate cancer. I was initially diagnosed at North Devon and just wanted to say a huge thank you to all concerned.

In every case I was met with empathy, friendliness and professionalism.

A special thank you to Mr Elhowaris, Dr. Varughese and their teams.

Also to all concerned with MRI scans, CAT scans, Nuclear medicine scans, the radiotherapy teams at Wonford and even whilst not my favourite procedure the Transperineal biopsy team.

Thanks also to Lee and Fran from the Pace Nodes trial team.

I think people are very quick to complain when things are not to their liking or expectations but fail to often give thanks when things go well.

I would also like to apologise if I bored anyone with my ‘angling talk’ but it’s my love of fishing that has given me a diversion and mental strength through this treatment.

I realise that possibly my journey is not fully over but the professionalism and dedication of everyone above has I’m sure given me the conviction that I have the best chance of a full recovery.

So once again a very big thank you to all concerned !

Dear augustfs95,

It is so lovely to hear from you on the experiences that you have had on your cancer journey.

As you have quite rightly pointed out we do not always hear all the positives from our patients and it is always wonderful to hear that a journey, whilst being difficult has been supported each step of the way.

Every day is a school day and angling knowledge will be greatly appreciated I am sure and it is so important with our patients to recognise went can provide some solace.

I have sent this lovely response to the team members, that you have mentioned above so that they know how much you appreciated their professionalism.

Take great care and remember that we also do have the Fern Centre here in North Devon

https://www.royaldevon.nhs.uk/our-sites/fern-centre/ - please do have a look to see if there is anything else they could support you with or call Tara Jones on

Telephone number 01271 311 855

Email address – rduh.theferncentre@nhs.net

I would like to thank you for taking the time to let us have feedback, with very best wishes,

Lisa
