By chance I discovered I had very high blood pressure. I was seen by my local GP that day and had an excellent level of service and tests as a result. As part of this I was referred for an ECG which I have been waiting for since I asked at my GP about this and was told to contact the department direct.
I contacted ECG, Kirkcaldy Victoria Hospital, to enquire about my ECG as I am now entering my third month and now on medication and still not 100%. I was informed that I had missed two appointments. Furthermore I was told I would have to contact my GP again for a new appointment and new referral as a result.
When I challenged the fact I had not missed these appointments and had no knowledge of them my address was checked. It turns out these were sent to my old address, from 12 years ago despite my records at my GP being correct. I was then told I would have to update this with the hospital, although they did change this for me.
I believe this is a poor response and standard of care, my address was up to date and I should not have to phone a hospital to notify if a house move. Furthermore should there not be safeguarding around follow ups if a department cannot contact people?
I will now have to start this whole process again. Let’s hope there is nothing sinister going as that’s it 2 months further on without any recourse. Poor.
