"Lack of parent child parking spaces."

About: Altnagelvin Area Hospital Omagh Primary Care Complex

(as a service user),

I'd like to express my disappointment at the lack of/non existence of parent and child parking spots at Altnagelvin Hospital and Omagh Primary Care Complex.

I have a child with a disability. He cannot mobilise. (In regards to disabled parking we are waiting his blue badge to arrive).

Since my child was a newborn he has attended many appointments at both sites.

I am aware that there is a creche in Altnagelvin site with parent child parking outside however there are certain times on these with time restrictions. This is not any help as clinics/appointments run behind, children need fed/changed, at times they require further investigation so having a time limit is not practical and only causes more stress in what can already be a stressful day.

I have asked each time I've attended appointments were the parent child spaces are. No one can point me in any direction and more often than not the staff only realise themselves there and then and are quite shocked.

In regards to the actual measurements of parking spaces- they are not wide enough to assist a child out of the car and also have a buggy in safely out of the way of oncoming cars.

For two amazing facilities that have made so many other provisions for children I am baffled at this issue. I hope my concern is taken seriously and someone can help rectify. Please inform me if there is intact appropriate parent and child spaces and if this is the case please sign post them and make staff aware.

I look forward to your response.

Hi Meadow22

My name is Joanne Support Services Manager and I am responding on behalf of Site Management Teams Trust wide.

Thank you for your comments and raising this issue with the Trust. At present we unfortunately do not have designated parenting bays across our Hospital sites due to the huge demand and capacity issues we have with parking on our sites in general, therefore we are unable to provide these specific designated bays. We as a Trust are committed to providing the best possible experience for people attending our sites and will consider your comments with future reviews of car parking.

Many Thanks

Support Services Team
