I came into the Birthing Centre at the Royal Infirmary having gone into spontaneous labour.
The midwives, Faye and Nic, were absolutely incredible through the whole process. Both had read my birth plan, supported me through all decisions. Discussed pros and cons of any intervention options concisely and clearly. They gave me space when needed and supported when necessary. I can’t speak highly enough about the care I received at the Birthing Centre. I managed to get almost the exact birth I had hoped for and the 1 unanticipated intervention was a positive experience in helping me deliver my son healthily. They were incredibly supportive and encouraging, even when I thought I couldn’t do it myself.
The birthing suite/room itself was fantastic too, spacious enough to allow me to keep mobile and moving all through the labour and I really valued the chance to use the pool for a couple of hours as a pain relief support.
I am incredibly grateful to both Faye and Nic in helping me and my husband welcome our son. I also had fantastic care from Catriona the next morning when the day shift started and before I was discharged home.
