"The nursing care and expertise was outstanding!"

(as a service user),

It’s been quite a journey these past 2 months since I fractured my femur. At first, I was scared and worried about how this would change my daily life as I was main carer for my elderly husband with vascular dementia.

After the fall, I was taken to Crosshouse hospital where I had my surgery. The surgery went well, and I was grateful for the care I received.

It was during my rehab journey at Biggart Hospital that the truly impressive care began. Karen CNM, Lesley Senior charge nurse, and the nursing team from Lindsay ward made sure I was comfortable and attended to my needs, which meant a lot during such a vulnerable time.

The nursing care and expertise was outstanding!

The nursing team at Biggart Hospital had a dementia friendly ethos and facilitated my husband’s visits with kindness, compassion and humour!

Once I started my rehabilitation, the physiotherapy and occupational therapy team provided encouragement and their skills supported me towards my speedy discharge.

The nursing team at Biggart Hospital were professional, person and family centred and their understanding and empathy at this difficult time helped my progress significantly.

Dear Bouncingback85,

Many thanks for taking the time to let us know about your experience not only at Biggart Hospital but of University Hospital Crosshouse. We strive at Biggart to ensure that everyone is treated like family. I am so glad your husband was able to come and visit and I am sure this helped to lighten your worries whilst you were in hospital. I personally try to get round all the wards and meet the patients at least once during their stay and I'm pleased to hear that this is helpful.

I will pass your kind thoughts onto the ward staff and multidisciplinary teams not only here at Biggart but also at Crosshouse. Our warmest wishes for your recovery, keep doing the exercises and stay safe.

Best wishes

Karen
