My dad - who is in his 80s - had health concerns, my mother - who is also in her 80s - really struggled with even calling to get a doctor's appointment. Unable to keep up with all the online queueing systems she was always super stressed having to call phone numbers that never picked up or waiting on call backs that never happened. Her stress levels were huge and her health was also being affected.
Then there was the eventual Ambulance and A&E long waits - it felt like nothing was going in the right way - for months getting pushed around from referral to referral, and doctor to doctor, all the time my dad is in constant pain and my mum is getting more and more stressed. Even getting to the appointments would be a struggle.
Then one day along came the Hospital at Home service. Wow - what a life changer. To have the contact from them really was fantastic. At last my mum started to become back to her normal self. The Hospital at home team took away all the stress of the constant phone call nightmares and really looked after my parents both medically and from a deeper caring personal side. They could see what was going on and really stepped in to take care of all the aspects of their daily lives that had been affected by my dad's poor health. All the logistical issues that my ageing parents could not cope with were suddenly removed. They could now focus on getting better.
I feel that the Hospital at home service is miraculous - not only did my parents get the care that they needed, but I feel from an efficiency stand point that it was a win-win for the staff and medical service as a whole. A great team could service many patients at home, freeing up not only hospital beds but also the related resources: car parks, receptions, waiting rooms, phone call operators, traffic, the list goes on.....
In summary: we need more of this wonderful service.
"Wonderful, we need more of this"
