"Professional, kind and understanding"

About: Perth Royal Infirmary / Trauma & orthopaedics Physiotherapy Services / Musculoskeletal (MSK) Physiotherapy - Outpatients

(as the patient),

I recently had a revision knee operation in Perth Royal Infirmary, then various physiotherapy appointments for 4 months afterwards. It’s so important to tell what wonderful care I have had.

I was in Ward 8 for just over 2 weeks. I had the most exceptional care by all grades of staff.  Cannot commend them high enough.

Both in the ward physiotherapy with Pam (who was amazing at changing my mindset for the positive, won’t ever forget her care)  and a few other physios and then as outpatient.

The physiotherapist I saw the most was Emerie , right up until discharge. He was/is exceptional. At the outset, in the ward, he totally understood the operation (Link Rotating Hinge Revision total knee replacement Endo model) I had had and how major it was and explained everything in detail about all the exercises and how to achieve the end result, slowly and surely . He was /is totally professional, so kind, so understanding of how very difficult it all was for me and gave me confidence to attempt the exercises.

Yes, the exercises were gruelling and yes there were tears at home, naturally, but with Emerie’s commitment to his profession and at every one of my appointments endorsing how important it was to do the exercises at home,  and so he could see the progress at next appointment. His  encouragement (which has no bounds) along with his lovely nature, got me on my feet, firstly with crutches then 2 sticks.

I’m nowhere near fully recovered, given that’s likely to take a year to 18months, but without having Emerie’s professional encouraging words in my ear when at home  I doubt I would be this far on.

For me, the continuity of the same physiotherapist , who saw me from Day 1, was definitely the best. To say I cannot thank him enough is an understatement.  I wish him well in all he does in his physiotherapy career.

Thank you so much for your feedback, We really appreciate the time and effort it obviously took to construct such a detailed and informative feedback and am delighted you felt the need to do so.

I will be happy to pass on your praise to both Pam and Emrie but am more happy you found the pathway and experience beneficial. We try to make it as smooth as possible transitioning from ward to outpatient rehabilitation and am pleased you found this the case.

Rehabilitation is never easy and is a combination of the patient's effort with the guidance and expertise of the therapist and I'm pleased you were able to comment on the 2 individuals you dealt with and found them supportive and informed about your procedure.

I wish you well in your recovery and am pleased you also recognise it is a bit of a marathon not a sprint.

Thank you once again for your wonderful and informative feedback.
