"Excellent and very professional"

About: Royal Devon & Exeter Hospital (Wonford) / Accident and emergency

(as a relative),

Recently my wife went into A&E with a very badly broken arm as a result of a camping accident. She was immediately assessed by the receptionist who could see that she was in considerable distress and was sent to triage straight away. Both the receptionist and the lady that triaged her and sent her directly for X-Ray were excellent and very professional.

My wife was received by the A&E team quickly – the team was led by Matt (advance practitioner nurse) who was an absolute breath of fresh air, full of energy, and very professional.

She ultimately received the following treatment:

•More X-Rays

•Detailed assessment of the damage including checking for head and hip trauma

•Checks to see if there was any nerve damage

•Detailed explanation of the procedures required

•Detailed explanation of the drugs required to carry out the procedure, including options and effects

•Straightening of the broken bones

•Plaster cast applied

•More X-Rays

•Follow up some time after to ensure that she was responding well

•Follow up to ensure all the relevant details went to our local hospital (Bath)

•Matt also contacted Bath Hospital to ensure they knew she needed a follow up consultation – this resulted in a very swift appointment letter for the following week

All in all the whole experience was as good as it could have possibly been.

Some of the words I would use to describe the experience are – Professionalism, Consideration, Caring, Understanding, Accuracy, Thoughtfulness, Forward thinking & a Spirited attitude

Our thanks go to the whole team:

Receptionist

Triage lady

Matt

Nick

Duncan (Military Medic)

Lady that applied the Plaster Cast

All other staff involved

Thanks

PS it looks like she may still have an opportunity to compete in the World & European Age Group Aquathlon championships (next year) after her arm has fully recovered (Matt might be interested to know this).
