"The kindness shown was second to none"

About: Breast Surgery / Macmillan Breast Care Cancer Services / Radiotherapy Ninewells Hospital / Breast Surgery

(as the patient),

I had a recall to breast screening clinic at Ninewells Hospital after a routine mobile screening.

Upon this recall I then had a biopsy taken.

A few weeks later I was given the diagnosis of lobular breast cancer. This cancer was hormone positive so I had to stop taking HRT and was put on hormone therapy while waiting for surgery.

Within 6 weeks of this I had successful  breast conserving surgery.

9 weeks later I had a 5 day course of radiotherapy.

Throughout all of this I was reassured and supported  by the breast care team, surgeon and the radiotherapy unit.

All of these teams made me feel ‘looked after’ , important and the kindness shown was second to none.

Dear SJD68,

You have been on a long journey from screening and assessment, and then to surgery and radiotherapy. I hope it all went well and that you are doing well now.

It's really encouraging to hear that all along the journey you felt well looked after and supported by the various staff members of the whole breast team.

I will be pleased to pass on your message to the whole breast team. Thank you so much for taking the time to write to us.

Best wishes,

Dear SJD68, thank you for taking the time to feedback your overall experience and in particular of our Radiotherapy Department. My name is Bob, one of the Support Workers who would have welcomed you to our department.

It is pleasing to hear that you had successful surgery prior to your course of radiotherapy and that you felt well supported by our Therapeutic Radiographers. I will pass on your kind words to them, thank you.

On behalf of everyone here at Radiotherapy, I hope you benefit from your treatments and wish you well for the future.

Kind regards... Bob
