"Made sure my birth experience was positive"

About: Maternity care / Labour suite maternity Maternity care / Maternity care (Ward 31)

(as the patient),

I was looked after by the staff at RAH throughout my pregnancy and wanted to thank my midwife Nicola, my consultant Christy and the sonography team for their great care throughout my pregnancy, which had required extra monitoring with a few complications.

I delivered my baby via induction, which ended in an unplanned C section, and was admitted to the RAH over 3 days early October. Although not much went to plan during the labour itself, I was so impressed with the professionalism and quality of care I received from the staff who looked after me during my stay.

The care I received from the midwife who supported my induction was excellent - she worked tirelessly through the night, nothing was too much of an ask and, as soon as I was settled and comfortable, she went straight back to closely monitoring my baby and making sure all was OK.

Both anaesthetist teams I saw were quick, very skilled at their jobs and I appreciated everything being explained to me throughout.

The consultant Katie who delivered my baby and oversaw my induction was caring and supportive of my wishes throughout the delivery. She was again very skilled and made sure I had a fairly quick and smooth C section recovery!

Everyone in the operating theatre worked so well together to get my baby here safely and this meant the C section itself was quick, uncomplicated and straight forward - I give all credit to the skilled staff involved for this, who worked together like a well-oiled machine!

Thank you all again for getting my baby here safely and for making sure my birth experience was positive.

Dear Mummy_24,

First of all congratulations on the birth of your baby! I am delighted to read that our staff were able to make you feel more reassured and positive during your birthing experience, especially with the unplanned and unexpected factors you mention. I can fully appreciate how worrying this must have been and to hear the positive impact the compassion, care and sensitivity provided by our staff had on you is really heart-warming. This high standard is what we strive to provide for everyone who comes into our care.

I will pass on your kind words of appreciation to the team.

Very best wishes,

Lisa, Patient Experience Public involvement Manager.
