"Feeling supported and confident about our future"

About: Scottish Ambulance Service / Patient Transport Service University Hospital Wishaw / Maternity Care University Hospital Wishaw / Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU)

(as a service user),

We wanted to thank the staff in Wishaw following the birth of our son. Mum is diagnosed with schizophrenia and on advice of perinatal mental health team was advised to stay longer in the hospital for monitoring.

All staff from the c-section onwards were mindful of supporting mum’s mental health and ensured dad could come during the start of the procedure. Everything was explained clearly.

Post c-section, our baby vomited green which resulted in a short visit to NICU and a trip to Glasgow for a scan in a baby ambulance – dad was able to join.

The staff in NICU and the ambulance were also wonderful and we felt baby was in safe hands. The scan ruled out bowel blockage but an incidental finding of an infection was discovered and low oxygen levels which needed some support.

We stayed some extra time while our son finished an antibiotics course where the staff on post natal ward went through feeding and shared many tips with us. Perinatal mental health were able to visit too - it felt joined up. Even though NICU was a stressful experience, we were discharged feeling supported and confident about our future.

Dear Cats1958,

Many thanks for taking the time to share your feedback here on CareOpinion. I am so sorry to read about your little one requiring NICU and transport by one of our teams. I cannot even begin to imagine how stressful a time this was for all of you and I hope that things at home are continuing in a positive way. All the very best for your futures and I wish you all the happiness.

It is great to hear positive stories about the work our wonderful staff provide. If you wish we can pass on the feedback to the crew involved in the transfer directly. To do so we would need to know the date, time and confirm the pick up/drop off points if you could (ward would be fine), and of course your little ones name. This information can be sent to sas.feedback@nhs.scot for the team to pick up. If you do decide to do this, would you be so kind as to make reference to your CareOpinion username so that the team can easily locate your story and share it with the crew.

I wish you all the very best and thanks again.

Kind Regards

Alan

Dear cats1958

Thank you for sharing your experience of UHW Maternity and Neo-Natal Care

It can be a worrying time when a relative is attending to have a baby, especially with the additional challenges mum may have experienced. I am so pleased to hear that the everybody took excellent care of mum and baby. This must have been very reassuring and helped you feel at ease.

I look forward to passing your kind words to the whole team who will get a real boost from hearing your feedback.

I hope you are recovering well and enjoying life with your new baby. Merry Christmas when it comes

Kind Regards,

Jennifer
