I was admitted to the Medical Assessment Unit of the RAH after many hours in A&E, which was extremely busy. Once in the ward l was assessed very quickly and told l was very ill with influenza A, pneumonia and high blood sugar.
The ward staff started treatment and then transferred me to High Dependency Unit. I cannot praise the staff in both the ward and HDU enough. The care l received was second to none, from the ladies who tirelessly clean and brighten the day with a chat, (which is so appreciated when in isolation) to the nursing and medical staff, who work tirelessly with a smile.
Nothing was too much trouble and each day and night shift l was allocated a nurse, who all looked after me so well. Despite being so ill l felt safe and well cared for. The care assistants were also very kind, helping with personal hygiene which makes us all feel better. I sadly missed my daughter's wedding due to this admission and, again, the staff supported me through this upsetting time.
Every stage of my diagnosis and treatment was explained to me clearly and in a way l could understand. I remained in HDU for 8 days, where l also had support from diabetic team and physiotherapy. I simply cannot praise them all enough. I am home now and getting stronger each day. This is all thanks to a wonderful team at the RAH in Paisley. I will be forever grateful for their excellent care.
"A wonderful team"
