My teenage daughter who has ASD and complexed medical needs attended Downe Hospital Downpatrick for and OGD. They phoned beforehand to ask what reasonable adjustments they could provide for my daughter. On the day my daughter was assigned 1 named nurse called Harriet. She had a room were she was on her own, curtains were pulled across and lights dimmed which all had a positive affect for my daughter in reducing her anxiety. They read over my daughter’s Health Passport and this stayed with my daughter throughout her procedure and until she returned back to the room. We were asked a few times during our time there if there was anything else that could be done, all this “extra” care, support and most importantly patience was very much appreciated by us her parents!! 5 ⭐️ for Harriet in DPU @ Downe Hospital. Dr McKinney was the anaesthetist and he was excellent with my daughter, he is very patient even though she did call him daddy when she woke up he played along with it - a very attentive gentleman indeed! 5⭐️ & then we have Katrina the Endoscopy Nurse who was amazing and took her time with my daughter throughout and took time to speak with me after the procedure to discuss the results! All in all a very positive experience especially taking into consideration my daughters needs! We wish all departments had this much expertise- keep up the great work everyone!
