"Hernia procedure and post op incident"

About: Wycombe Hospital / Accident and emergency Wycombe Hospital / General surgery

(as the patient),

I recently had a hernia procedure at Wycombe Hospital. The surgeon met me on the day after their consultant saw me. I assume the operation went well, though I haven’t heard back since from the surgeon of their team.

However I had an Ideopathic Angio-oedema, severe swelling of the tongue post-op. I was admitted to HDU overnight. The care was intensive and excellent and the intravenous treatment resolved the issue.

I understand that the surgeon's team was shocked by the incident, but made no contact with me then or since. I have experienced pain in post-op at home but seem to be recovering and will follow the steps to remove the dressing.

Overall the NHS should be proud of how I was cared for.
