I first noticed a problem with my eyesight while driving in February 2024. I was getting ghost images. Eg sometimes I thought a car was about to overtake an oncoming car at about 50 meters, this was dependent on sun position and colour of the car. At first I though my windscreen was delaminating.
Then I notices at that point were I thought there was a second car a double white line became 4 white lines. And then reverted gradually two 2 lines as it past me and the cars merged.
I was not happy driving which made it hard for me to continue with my job 28 miles away from home.
It was hard to convince an eye specialist that there was a problem as I could read a number plate to the recommended distance.
I soon realised that this problem was only in my right eye. My left eye is very weak from birth so I rely almost totally in my right eye for vision.
I think optometrists should be made more aware of this condition and sufferers should not be driving.
In my opinion the operation was:-
skilful professional and thorough.
The same day after the procedure my vision and focus was very good no ghost images but noticed 2 new flouters at bottom right of vision. But the good news I could drive without glasses again and see everything with sharp focus.
Now several weeks later it gets better, the new floaters have gone! I am very grateful to the NHS and particularly the Exeter eye unit for this outcome.
