"Prompt and professional support"

About: Royal Alexandra Hospital / Accident & Emergency Royal Alexandra Hospital / Radiology

(as a service user),

Attended A&E department with a very painful knee injury. Department was as expected, very busy for Saturday afternoon. Checked in at reception, receptionist was friendly and efficient, advised me I wouldn’t go to triage (I wasn’t sure if that meant I would be waiting longer however expected a long wait).

Health Care Worker Jacqui (unsure is she was a nurse or perhaps more senior) called my name to invite me through to minor injuries within 15 minutes of arriving. I was delighted to be seen so quickly as I was in severe pain and finding it challenging to bear weight. Promptly, asked about what pain relief I had taken and she gave me pain relief to allow an examination.  Jacqui was welcoming and considerate, put me very much at ease and organised an X-ray quickly. Radiographer was kind and considerate, assessed what I needed within 15 minutes.  Caring porter returned me to Jacqui who was able to give me almost instant results.  Explained outcome of X-ray was orthopaedic opinion required, knee fracture, brace support fitted, crutches to assist mobility and medicine for the pain, with instructions on how to manage everything. Appointment organised for fracture clinic. Within one hour and 30 minutes I left reassured, comfortable and mobile, with next steps to follow.

I was reluctant to go to hospital however very very satisfied that I did and extremely grateful for the prompt and professional support from Jacqui and the rest of the team.  Many thanks.
