Recently, I had a 24 hr Impedance Study, as well as oesophageal manometry. These are challenging tests - physically and emotionally. As a person in my 20's with various complex health needs, attending appointments like these can be exhausting and upsetting. I am in and out of hospital constantly and so coming in for more tests isn’t always a positive experience.
I’m a wheelchair user and have severity hypermobility in my joints. I also have ME, which means that every visit to a setting like this can leave me exhausted for days afterwards.
I was incredibly nervous to have my PH and swallowing studies. But, from the minute I got into the clinic room, Pia and Maya were incredible. They made me smile and laugh. I very quickly felt my nerves slip away. The tests were challenging, but Pia and Maya took care of me and were extra gentle. Their manual handling skills were superb; they took extra care to support my very hypermobile neck, and gently supported my legs up to the bed. My comfort was at the forefront of everything they did. They took notice of any discomfort and fatigue, and they adjusted their pace.
I cannot thank them enough for making another difficult set of tests a more positive and gentle experience. Thank you, Pia and Maya!
