"Health & safety concerns"

About: Borders General Hospital / Accident & Emergency Borders General Hospital / General Medicine Borders General Hospital / General Surgery (Ward 7)

(as a relative),

My wife has been admitted twice following 999 calls within days of each occasion, clearly the discharge first time was wrong but that is another matter, my main concern is with health and safety.

During my wife's stays she was accommodated in a number of different  wards and a number of different rooms within those ward so when visiting I witnessed the situation in a number of places where the problem was repeated.

The problem being that corridors within wards are so cluttered with equipment that the movement of patients is made difficult. On her second admission she was moved from A&E to a ward, on the second afternoon, when I was visiting I therefore followed the porter on his journey, the porter had to stop 5 times on that journey to move items into doorways etc to enable passage.

My concerns for all patients at BGH is that in an emergency evacuation would be impossible and lives could be lost.

Good Morning shudderzj69,

Im sorry to hear about your experiences out lined above. We have a lot of equipment in todays healthcare and not a lot of storage spaces. We try and keep corridors clear as much as possible. If you would like to contact patient experience team so this can be passed over to the Health and Safety team.

Alan
