"Tired of fighting for a service"

About: Lincolnshire Partnership NHS Foundation Trust / Adult mental health Lincolnshire Partnership NHS Foundation Trust / Crisis resolution

(as a service user),

Hugely disappointing service. In my experience, I feel I have been left to deteriorate so badly and that certain staff do not care about providing actual support or listening to the service users or their carers. I feel like we are punished for raising concerns and suffer worse care.

The staff I have encountered don't seem to know how to help and they seem to avoid actually addressing any issues. There's no crisis service, and I've had no follow up. Adult services have been almost impossible to get in contact with and like Fort Knox to get through.  Their answer has always been to use medication, medication you might not actually need if you were adequately supported, but unfortunately there’s at least a 6 month wait to see a psychiatrist. I have suffered, mistakes have been made, I don't seem to get anywhere with this service.

I’m at the point where I just don’t see the point in being under this pointless service, I’m fed up, I’m tired of the excuses for the lack of progress and rapid deterioration. It’s been almost impossible to get a referral from a CPN to see psychology, I waste so long doing assessments and in which time I develop more issues that then become the priority. It’s been a complete farce.

Please do better, patients deserve so much better and I hope that for the sake of future generations change happens. Patients and carers shouldn’t be suffering like this and not everyone has the strength to advocate & fight for themselves or to speak up but I don’t feel I can sit around and do nothing about this. Please think about what you are doing here and what you are actually achieving running a service like this, consider  why you are doing this job and whether you are in this job for the right reasons because you are working with extremely v*ulnerable service users and individuals with complex needs who deserve better and need better support to survive & remain in the community at home with the people who love and care for them.

I feel it should be home not hospital for those with complex needs in particular and for anyone hospital should always be a last resort and not a desirable outcome, when appropriate support can be provided to these individuals in the community, something that is achievable and far more cost effective than relying on inpatient services that cannot effectively meet the needs of service users and are already overstretched, overwhelmed and becoming unsafe as a result of struggling to meet the increasing demand. You have the power to really make a difference to the lives of struggling individuals in our society but you have to want to make that change.
