"Mum's total hip replacement"

About: Gartnavel General Hospital / Orthopaedics (ward 4c)

(as a relative),

My mum had waited over 2 and a half years for her hip replacement with increasing pain and reduced mobility.

From her referral to Orthopaedics with Mr Mansbridge she was reviewed assessed and provided with physiotherapy exercises until a date for surgery was set.

Her original date was potentially November 2024 however this was changed to January 9th 2025.

The team at Gartnavel General were excellent from arrival at admissions to SDA mum was treated with care and respect. Stephanie who checked mum into dept was so lovely as mum was nervous, but Stephanie put her at ease through all the checklists.

SCN Cheryl & SCODP Paul were on hand to let us know that unfortunately there were some bed pressures and were awaiting management decisions regarding proceeding. They kept us informed and gave reassurance.

Mum was obviously upset that her operation may not proceed but understood the situation with regard to wonter pressures.

Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon Mr Mansbridge also came to see mum and we all hoped a positive decision would be made to go ahead.

The anaesthetist came to see mum in preparation of operation happening & went though all the assessments.

We are all so relieved when we got the OK that her operation was happening.

From here it was a safe, seamless & efficient process to take mum to theatre.

Special thanks to Mr Mansbridge & registrar, anaesthetist and theatre recovery staff Maureen Paul Metisha Trisha Emma and Patience.

It was reassuring she was in such great hands throughout the day.

Mum is now recuperating in ward 4c.

Leann and Enoch and whole team just wonderful so friendly and attentive.

The ward team had been under extreme pressure due to winter bed issues and they really deserve a huge thank you and acknowledgement of how the pressures affect the staff and patients alike.

Mum has been receiving great care and attention and today starts physiotherapy has had check xray bloods etc.

Cannot fault her care journey and so very thankful to everyone involved and grateful to have the NHS.

Our family are hugely appreciative to all.

Hi bravofe87,

Thank you very much for taking the time to write this message. We are sorry your mum had to wait so long for the operation but very glad to hear, but not surprised of the care your mum has received from the 4c team!

I hope your mum is well on the road to recovery and I will happily pass on your message to all those involved in your mums care.

Many thanks,

Dan - Orthopaedic Clinical Service Manager.
