"Very little compassion or understanding"

About: Derriford Hospital / General surgery

(as the patient),

I have been admitted to this ward on several occasions.

In my experience, some of the HCAs have been incredibly rude, unempathetic towards the patients & appeared to be poorly trained. Every one of my admissions to Hound ward has always reduced me to tears & been extremely traumatic for me, due to the way I have been treated by some HCAs, who I feel have shown me little empathy & very little compassion or understanding.

I have found most of the nurses to be good at their jobs, and the majority of the doctors, although there's one who I feel is extremely condescending to me every time I've been under their care.

I try to avoid this ward at every opportunity but there's one HCA who is truly amazing & is extremely good at her job.

It's just a shame that they aren't all like this HCA who i truly appreciate & admire.

We are truly sorry to hear about this experience and extend our apologies to you. Sian consistently encourages patients to raise concerns directly with her at the time, as this allows us to address issues more promptly and effectively.

It's reassuring to note that the nursing staff on SAU frequently receive positive feedback, which reflects their dedication and hard work.

We value all comments and take them seriously. Rest assured, we will review this feedback thoroughly and take steps to ensure this type of concern does not arise again.

Many thanks,

Sue Clemow
