"Missed diagnosis of spinal fracture"

About: Derriford Hospital / Accident and emergency

(as the patient),

I was transported to A&E by ambulance after taking a serious fall onto my back. I was stuck in the back of an ambulance all night, in the hospital car park.

After having x-rays, I was told by the A&E doctor that I just had severe bruising. Only to find out from a recent CT scan which identified that I did indeed have an old fracture in my L3 vertebrae, which is exactly the area that I had complained about severe pain in, after my  previous fall.

I now have absolutely no confidence in this accident & emergency department, who failed to properly diagnose a spinal fracture in me & has left me with side effects for the 18 months since that fall.
